The medieval small finds from Monte Iato in Sicily

The excavations of the Archaeological Institute of the University of Zurich on Monte Iato (Sicily), which have been going on for forty years, have yielded an extensive spectrum of small medieval finds reflecting the coexistence of Norman, Muslim and Hohenstaufen communities  on the island. The town of Giato, the last centre of Muslim resistance against the Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II, was destroyed by the latter in 1246 and not repopulated, so that a terminus ante quem is available for dating.
