Library

The library is a cornerstone of the Leibniz Research Institute for Archaeology, comprising a rich collection of approximately 180,000 media units and 2,000 journals, including 1,300 serial publications. Recognised as one of the most substantial and influential libraries in Europe devoted to archaeology and the cultural history of the ancient world, it supports research across a broad chronological spectrum—from the Palaeolithic to the High Middle Ages.
Its thematic specialisations reflect LEIZA’s diverse scope, with particular strengths in:
- Archaeology and the Natural Sciences
- Ancient China
- The History of Medicine
- Coptic Textiles
- And, of course—Glass

Research
The library is a reference library, which means that all physical volumes in the collection are always available. However, as a reference library, it does not offer lending services.
The collection is freely accessible and organized according to the library’s classification system.
