Abstract
In diesem Vortrag wird ein besonderer Blick auf Archäologie geworfen – nämlich als ein soziales Netzwerk von Forschenden und Forschungseinrichtungen. Dieses Konzept ermöglicht es, den Austausch von Wissen und die Aushandlung gemeinschaftlicher Normen zu analysieren. Die Archäologie in Odessa begann mit einer nichtstaatlichen Gemeinschaft von Forschenden: der “Odesa Society of History and Antiquities” (1839–1919). Diese Gesellschaft fungierte als Knotenpunkt für den europaweiten Austausch archäologischer Erkenntnisse. Dieses Entwicklungsmodell – geprägt vom Dialog über Distanzen und Grenzen hinweg und fortbestehend trotz Kriegen, Repressionen, Exil und Zensur – beeinflusst die Entwicklung der Odessa-Archäologie bis heute.
Über die Referentin
Anzhelika Kolesnychenko, PhD in Archäologie, ist Research Fellow an der National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyjiw.
Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen die Geschichte der Archäologie sowie antikes Glas. Sie schloss ihr Studium an der Mechnikov-Universität Odesa ab und arbeitete am Archäologischen Museum Odesa. Anschließend war sie als Postdoc an der Universität Bologna und der Universität Bordeaux Montaigne tätig. Derzeit forscht sie am Institut für Archäologie in Kyjiw und verfolgt ein Postdoc-Projekt am Cyprus Institute.

Im November 2025 veranstaltet das Leibniz-Forschungsnetzwerk Östliches Europa in Kooperation mit SCIENCE AT RISK eine öffentliche Vortragsreihe mit gefährdeten Wissenschaftler*innen aus der Ukraine. Der Vortrag ist Teil dieser Vortragsreihe und wird in Kooperation mit folgenden Partnern veranstaltet:
- dem Leibniz-Forschungsnetzwerk Östliches Europa,
- der Initiative „Science at Risk“,
- dem Historischen Seminar der Universität Mainz,
- sowie dem Institut für Europäische Geschichte.

A lecture by Anzhelika Kolesnychenko (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv)
Abstract
In this presentation, we will explore a specific perspective on archaeology—viewing it as a social network of researchers and research institutions. This framework allows us to analyse how knowledge is exchanged and how community norms are negotiated.
Archaeology in Odesa began with a non-governmental community of researchers: the Odesa Society of History and Antiquities (1839–1919), which functioned as a hub for the exchange of archaeological knowledge on the European scale. This mode of development—anchored in dialogue with colleagues across distances and borders, persisting despite periods of wars, repression, exile, and censorship—has continued to shape the trajectory of Odesa archaeology to this day.
About Anzhelika Kolesnychenko
Anzhelika Kolesnychenko is a PhD in Archaeology and Research Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv.
Her research interests include the history of archaeology and ancient glass.
She graduated from Mechnikov Odessa University and worked at the Odessa Archaeological Museum, then held post-doctoral positions at the University of Bologna and the University of Bordeaux Montaigne. She is currently based at the Institute of Archaeology in Kyiv and is pursuing a postdoctoral research project at the Cyprus Institute.
